COLLAPSE INTO NOW: ME, MARLON BRANDO, MARLON BRANDO AND I

As a side note, on Ultimate Guitar.com I had a tab reach the 1,000 view mark.  The surprising part is that the song is not Radio Free Europe or Rockville, the other top vote getters.  The winner is Uberlin.  Which has been posted for 11 days.  As opposed to the months RFE and Rock have been posted.  That's astounding.
Turning back to this song,  it has grown on me.  I think when I first heard the title, I cringed or withdrew in some way.  But the song is very bittersweet, it feels like a song that could play right after Monty Got A Raw Deal.  In flying through these songs I realize that I am not getting every doodle and lead, but it has given me a different appreciation for the songs and the album.  It's also shown me how much the band has grown musically, particularly in the studio.  The rawness is replaced with endless layering of tracks that blend into such a great sound.  This is the real result of the tinkering of Up, Reveal, and Around The Sun.  R.E.M. have grown into a three piece (no slight on Scott or Bill R there).  It took some time, but it was worth it.  Is this it for Warner Bros?  Are they going to go indie?  I anxiously await the next step ... last stop here on CIN though will be 'Blue.'

ME, MARLON BRANDO, MARLON BRANDO AND I

We live and dream about the future
Please ask Neil I need to pow wow now
Sift through the annals of our flavored times
Our heroes and all their fatal flaws

Me, Marlon Brando, Marlon Brando and I sing

Lay me down down down down
Lay me down down down down down
Help me off to sleep
Take me deep again

We live and dream about our heroes
I listened closely and I said
‘I’m not sure where to place myself here friend
I might pawn the gold rings instead.’

The winners write the rule books
The histories and lullabies

Lay me down down down down
Lay me down down down down down
Help me off to sleep
(Down down down)
Take me deep again
(Down down down)

I heard what you said
(Lay me down down down)
I picture brass rings in your head
(Lay me down down down)
While gold and bronze are bon bons
(Down down down)
Our brass is mixed with lead

Cool sound with the mandolin here.  Gives the song a great mood.  He doesn't seem to slide up to the faux Am every time in the verse, but it's a cool sound.  It's great to play the first chord here and know exactly which song you are going into. Also, love the chord form in the chorus.
