LIFES RICH PAGEANT: WHAT IF WE GIVE IT AWAY?

For some reason, this album sees a number of older songs resurrected.  This one dates back before Chronic Town as a song called "Get on their way" obviously a song about wearing out your welcome.  And to the band's credit, the music of the song remains largely in tact.  So we have this song, Hyena, and the next track "Just A Touch" as revamped older songs.  Then a cover song at the end.  Is this album filled with "filler" material as some suggest?  I don't think so.  In fact, for a while this was my favorite song on the album.  Perhaps for its simplicity, or the fact that it just fits so well.
One of R.E.M.'s primary strengths is putting an album together.  They just all have an instinct for how music flows ... I suspect Bill Berry had a lot of say as after his departure the albums suffered just a little.  I'm sure that the band was surprised at how well these songs came out and fit with the new material.
Below, check out the original at about 7:30 minutes in ...

WHAT IF WE GIVE IT AWAY?
On the outside, underneath the wall
All the money couldn’t buy
You’re mistaken, no one’s standing there
For the record no one try

Oh I
Tried to
What if we give it away?

Overlooking with a hollow eye
What’s pretended isn’t right
Eye for order a hand for what’s in line
Couldn’t follow couldn’t write

Oh I
Tried to
What if we give it away?

And our life is (does) fine here
Stitch it on your tie here

Here’s the trailer Tom
A year has come and gone
We’re not moving wasn’t right
Take the order sew it on your tie
We couldn’t follow couldn’t try

Oh I
Tried to
What if we give it away?
What if we give it away?

This one definitely has it's little tricks.  There are two guitars on the track, but I've posted here with one as it's quite simple to play that way.  The last chord is fun and the little walkdowns really make the song ... enjoy!
